Check out our new signs promoting our vision around Hauora, Health and Wellbeing!

We are proud to be growing happy healthy learners at West Rolleston Primary School!

Our school Hauora Health and Wellbeing Model was introduced at the end of 2019 based on ideas and feedback from our learners, staff and community. It has five different dimensions. These areas affect the way we feel and experience life. It is important that we prioritise wellbeing in our community and grow happy healthy learners [our vision]

Whakaaro is the te reo word for thoughts, wairua is the word for spirituality. We choose these words to represent the inner workings of all of us. The term mind health is a neutral term reminding us all that we have to take care and prioritise the health and wellbeing of our minds.

Taha Tinana / Body Health is all about the different ways in which we can keep our bodies healthy. This includes educating our learners around diet and exercise as well as personal hygiene.

Whanaungatanga / Connection refers to the benefit of positive relationships on our personal wellbeing. We know that in order to grow and flourish we need to invest in good relationships. No person is an island.

Whakawhetai translates to more than gratitude, it is the idea that gratitude is a living feeling that when felt, is naturally passed on. We know that it fills our own tank when we do good for others and this is a part of our hauora model.

Ako / Purpose comes from the idea that when we have direction we are more secure, happier and overall show signs of healthier wellbeing. Ako manifests in a range of different ways for people, be it goal setting, planning, finding value in what you are doing etc.

Next time you're walking into the office take some time to have a look at our new signs promoting our vision for happy healthy learners!

Thanks to Mrs Whittingtons art club for varnishing our new signs and Andy for putting them up on the wall!
