Board of Trustees Update

Simon McDermott —

The BoT met last Thursday - here are some details of the meeting.

As we are in Level 2, it was acknowledged that the community and school are in another stressful period.  If there is anything the School can do to assist in our community, please reach out.  We can assist and recognise the challenges this presents to us all - please look out for instructions from Sylvia and the team.  We have everyone's best interests at heart and need to work together at this time.

As you will all be aware, the school keeps growing, the latest roll sits at 645 and Sylvia and the team are making some changes to the classes to manage this but it is an ongoing conversation with the Ministry around the growth.  At the current rate, we will exceed build capacity in the next 12+ months, so we are working on what this means.  The assurance the BoT gives to Sylvia is that we want to maintain our teaching ratios and anything else required to ensure the delivery of the curriculum is a priority.

It is pleasing that the MoE are activating some improvements in the office area and within a learning studio. This has been the result of a lot of canvassing and discussion with the Ministry. We should see this work commence in the next holiday period, suffice to say it's a great outcome! We are also looking at other property initiatives, but want to be clear the focus is on managing our growth.

We have had some advice on the safe travel plans, and our roading/congestion issues.  There's a lot of "personal responsibility" required here, policing the basics of: parking in the drop off zones, parking on the footpaths, parents not using the crossing - its up to us all to responsibly manage this.  PLEASE can we all be responsible and act with safety in mind with all travel around the school.  There are some plans to make changes and improve the safety for our children, but many of the acts of our own community are undesirable.  Let's be safe.

Finally, the BoT is planning their annual strategic plan review and community input will be sought in the next few weeks.

There's a lot going on and we want to acknowledge the staff and community for your ongoing support.  It's always refreshing to see the children happy and enjoying their school. Let's make that a priority.
