GROW update

Fundraising for junior playspaces

Thanks to everyone who was involved with our school disco last Friday: this includes those of you who baked, volunteered your time, painted faces, or simply came along with the kids. Special thanks to Dena Greene and Linda Currie for disco set-up and support, as well as to Pete Northmore and Ben Galletly for their contributions as DJ's.

The disco was a great way to kickstart our fundraising campaign for new junior play spaces. We're hoping to enhance the playground area directly outside TKK and TAT, and put in more kid-friendly spaces for our littlies . The quotes are coming in thick and fast and it looks like we'll be needing about $30,000 in order to put the vision that Sylvia and her team have in place for our youngest learners. The good news is we're already 10% of the way there thanks to the disco.

Maia and Ciara helped me make a thermometer to track our progress towards this goal last weekend. It is hanging on the GROW noticeboard at the school entrance and we're hoping to update it regularly with our progress over the next couple of months, so keep your eyes open.

There are a few ways you can help with this project:

1. Join our community Facebook page  at www.facebook.com/groups/GROWWRPS/ to keep up to date with all the latest happenings.

2. Attend our quiz night at Silver Dollar on July 2nd.

3. Help us out by attending the Canterbury Duathlon series as a marshal on June 9, June 30 and July 28. We need 14 marshals to control road traffic for the cycle leg of the event on each day. And we've also been offered the opportunity to run a sausage sizzle and sell drinks.

The junior playspace enhancements are just one of the projects we have on the go at the moment. An extension to the senior playground is ongoing and we've recently added the new playspace outside Te Ara Whanui.

If you have any questions, or creative fundraising ideas, don't hesitate to contact us at growwrps@gmail.com, or come along to our next committee meeting on June 17th at 7pm.
