Update to our school's TerraCycle programme.

Ben Galletly —

Kia ora West Rolleston primary school whānau.

A reminder that our school is part of the TerraCycle recycling programme that helps to divert landfill waste. For the past 5 years we have collected oral care waste as well as yoghurt pouches from our school community, sending them away to be recycled.

TerraCycle has informed us that they are discontinuing the collection of the yoghurt pouches as of August this year.

We have decided as a replacement we will begin to collect and recycle GLAD food storage products. Each year, over 252,000 tonnes of plastic waste is thrown away and disposed of in NZ landfills, so if West Rolleston Primary can do our bit to reduce that amount, that would be fantastic.

See below to find out what will be accepted.

You will still find recycling stations in the school admin area that you can put your oral care waste in. We will continue to collect the yoghurt pouches until the end of August, and we will begin to collect the Glad products from today.

In order to recycle this waste stream properly, please make sure all excess product has been removed. Additionally, if you choose to rinse your product, please note that it must be completely dry.

Once collected and sent to TerraCycle, the recycling is cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products.
