Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

It has been a busy and exciting two weeks at WRPS. The ice-skating was incredibly popular with the children and our community. Thanks to Mrs Amanda Clarkson for organising this unique learning experience!

Thanks also to Kylie Drake, Kelly Ewen, Shannon Spencer and the GROW team for organising our annual 'back to school - meet the teacher' event. It was great to have so many activities for our community including pedal-mania, bouncy castles and Busy Bumbles games. The free sausages were also a lovely treat - all 600 gone:)

We have a few important events coming up as well. One of these is our goal setting conferences planned for Wednesday 4 March and Thursday 5 March. A goal setting conference is a conversation between the parent, the teacher and the child and is focused on your child’s learning goals along with a personal goal that has been set for the beginning of the year. There is also time for your child to walk you around the learning studio and describe for you all of the different rich learning tasks he or she has been involved in.

To book your interview please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz. Your code is fedhm. You then need to click on your child’s whānau group teacher and choose a time slot and enter the details required. A confirmation email will be sent to you.

Today is also our swimming sports for our Year 5-8 learners. Thanks to Miss Rebecca Lambert and Mr Fraser Malins for organising this and to our parents who are helping with this.

The Ministry of Education are now monitoring and collating our termly attendance in primary schools. There is strong evidence that shows that children who attend school every day have greater opportunities for success and positive well-being. Thank you for prioritising the importance of your child attending school every day when they are not unwell.

Finally, thanks also for helping to keep all of our children safe by modelling safe behaviour travelling to and from school. I have had to chat to a few children who have come to school on bikes without helmets so please discuss road safety regularly - and it's great to see some children in safety vests .... would be great to see everyone wearing them!

Ngā mihi nui
