Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

Well done to all of our junior athletes who participated with great spirit in their events this week. Gone are the days where children sit in endless long queues all day waiting to have their 1 minute throw of a shot put.

It is great to see the children developing skills and positive attitudes about participating. Based on parental feedback last year we did include a competitive element finishing with sprints although this was cut from one session due to weather! Well done to Miss Emma Woods who won the Te Ara Tupu whānau/staff run:) If your child showed a particular passion and enjoyment of the activities then check out the local athletics club at Brookside Park.

There was great excitement also this week with the arrival of the science roadshow. We are trying hard to capture the interest in science that we know our learners have in this area and build their knowledge and capabilities in science. These are their abilities to: Gather & interpret data,  Use evidence,  Critique evidence, Interpret representations and Engage with science. Here is an interesting article for your interest: http://www.nzscienceteacher.co.nz/curriculum-literacy/key-competencies-capabilities/unlocking-the-idea-of-capabilities-in-science/#.XbnSKuczY_V

Finally, this week will be topped off by our junior and senior disco tomorrow after school. Thanks to Dena Greene and GROW for organising this. Thanks to all parents and whānau for supporting this event.

Ngā mihi

Sylvia
