Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

It was great to run our third Matariki and Hangi evening last night. The studio displays look amazing - Te Kete Kākano had even turned their lights off so their stars were twinkling!

Thank you to all of the people who made this night possible - our fabulous learners, Miss Katie Talbot, Miss Leigh Thrupp, Miss Sam Nichols, Matua Te Huaki, Tegan Dawson- McMurdo, Chook Norgate, Shannon Spencer.....just to name a few!

Thanks to all of the parents and whānau who took the time to look through studios, watch and support our amazing kapahaka performers and then stay and share a hangi or meal. It is really lovely to see families welcoming new families and enjoying our school activities collaboratively. If you are a new or old family out there and do not feel very connected with the community then please feel free to see me and I can connect you with some families.

As usual our learners are busy with the many opportunities presented to them. Last Friday we had several football and hockey teams representing our school in the zone tournaments. It was great to get feedback from the parent coaches who supported our teams that our learners were fair, encouraging and demonstrated our kōwhai rules. Thanks to those coaches - Fred Woodcock, Tina Washington, Mr Pete Northmore, Mr Fraser Malins and Miss Sarah Kerkhofs.

Welcome to our new teacher Mrs Caitlin Tinnelly and our new assistant Caity Andrew who started this week.

Finally, I am waiting to hear who our elected Board of Trustees for the next three years are. I have really enjoyed working with our previous trustees and am so grateful for the selfless way they worked for our learners and the future of our school. A massive thank you for the work they have done, and the support they have provided me with: Simon McDermott, Sam Forward, Lee-Ann Irving, Rob Hunt, Tegan Dawson-McMurdo, Leanne Savea and Megan Murray.

Ngā mihi nui

Sylvia
