Message from the Principal
This week was the final game of basketball competition for our five Year 3/4 teams on Monday after school. Thank you to Mr Fraser Malins for organising this and to all of the staff and parents who helped: Mr Kyle Seckold, Miss Nicole Davidson, Annette Hynes, Amy Price, Ellen Woodcock, Aaron Stevens and Merrin Luscombe [Y7 learner].
This week we also had four learners representing our school and zone at the Canterbury Athletics Championships. Well done to Carla Greyling, Conner Woodcock, Sunny Schuurmans and Elijah Butler. They represented us proudly and all showed a GROW attitude!
Tomorrow a letter will go home informing everyone of who each child's whānau teacher is for 2020. We spend hours and hours organising these groups. Thank you for the support and care you show for our teachers as well as our learners.
Tomorrow is our final 'normal' assembly for 2019. We love the support we get from families for these assemblies so thank you. Next Friday will be our final assemblies [juniors 9.30am, seniors 1.30pm] and prize-givings for 2019. At 11am that day the Board of Trustees will sponsor a special morning tea for parents/whānau who have helped out with special events or regularly volunteered their time to our school this year. Please come along to the office area for a cup of tea and some nibbles.
Next Friday the final digital reporting of your child's learning for 2019 will be up-loaded into linc ed. This shows progress against the curriculum levels in reading, writing and maths and goals that you may be able to continue working on over the holidays. There will also be some samples of key learning areas.
This week I was loathe to ask our community to support another fundraiser however I have been so upset by the news from Samoa of all of those babies and young children with measles so I have organised a coin trail for 8.30am outside the library. This money will be donated to the Red Cross for Samoan medical efforts. As one of a small number of pasifika principals we also sent out a challenge to other primary schools to support this cause. Thank you.
Finally, if your child travels to or from school via Bethany Rd please talk to them about stopping and looking both ways before crossing the road. I have had another concerned parent contact the school to say children are walking and scootering straight across the road without checking for traffic. Please do all you can to help keep our children safe.
Ngā mihi nui
