GROW update

Kylie Drake —

Last Sunday, I was joined by an amazing group of parents at Brookside Park to act as marshals for the first race of the Canterbury Duathlon series. It was cold, but a great experience, and lots of fun. Both the cyclists and traffic were so polite and everyone seemed very appreciative of our efforts. We also ran a sausage sizzle with the help of some learners and their siblings, and it was great to have a hot sausage after our marshalling duties were over. If you've ever thought you might like to wear hi-vis for a couple of hours and hold a Stop/Go lollipop, this is the volunteering opportunity for you! We still have two races to marshal on June 30th and July 28th.

Hot chocolate begins next Wednesday, June 19th. My thanks to all those who have donated biscuits. We now have enough biscuits to cover the 8 weeks. Thank you. Thanks also to Jo Burnett and her team of parents for taking on the challenge of serving hot chocolate to 500+ learners. A call for help will be made on the GROW Facebook page, so keep an eye out if you're willing to help.

We have our next GROW committee meeting on Monday June 17th at 7pm in the staff space. If you'd like to learn more about GROW and the projects we've undertaken, then please join us. We're always looking for new fundraising initiatives and ideas for building our school community. Agenda items can be sent to Kelly Franks or myself.

Finally, you children will soon be coming home with a fridge magnet that looks a little like this:

Production of the magnets was sponsored by Busy Bumbles, and they're meant as a one-stop shop for information about all things school related. We plan to give them out to every new learner. Don't want one? Pass it along to a neighbour or friend with a child who will start at West Rolleston in the near future.
