Message from the Principal
In the picture above you can see Josh and Jackson using liquid to move the hydraulic arm they have built as part of a STEM [science, technology, engineering, maths] programme run by one of our Deputy Principals, Mr Ben Galletly.
This is just one example of some of the additional learning opportunities we provide for learners at our school. These include ako Te Reo Māori, jump-jam, maths support, code club, enviro group, extension Mandarin and waiata.
This week the 40 children who opted to be in the waiata group had the opportunity to perform at the Kids for Kids Concert at Horncastle Arena with Jackie Clarke and Nathan King. This is a very upbeat concert which celebrates children bringing them together to sing contemporary NZ songs. Our children sang with enthusiasm and looked happy. Special thanks to the staff who have been working with the children all year - Miss Laura Finn, Mrs Tess Rodgers and Jacqui Soper.
Last week we had our final disco for the year which was a great success. The children enjoyed dancing with their friends and playing lots of games like apple bobbing. Thanks to professional DJ Tony who provided his skills for free, having to also take a day off work to do this and to our Teaching Assistant Dena who always organises and makes the disco such a highlight. Thanks to all of the parents who always help, staying through to clean up as well: Linda Currie, Kumie Schuurman, Sarah Booth, Craig Greene and Matt Schuurman.
This week Jo Burnett of Inspired Delights and GROW ran an American Hotdog Fund-raiser for Nora at Clearview Primary. I am proud to say we raised $1,038.16. These are just some of the amazing things our school community does.
Finally, the children have been doing really well at entering our school and hopping off their bikes and scooters. The challenge is now on for our adults to be as safety conscious as our learners and ensure they are 'exiting' the school from the correct driveway - not the furthest driveway on Dunn's Crossing Rd which is 'enter' only. I have been surprised that approximately only 8 of our learners who bike, scooter and walk to school wear hi-vis safety vests.....let's all be road safety conscious together for the good of our 585 learners and trillions of pre-schoolers.
Ngā mihi
Sylvia
