Board of Trustees - Welcome!

Simon McDermott —

Welcome to the 2019 year from your Board. Its great to see the new families and learners at our school - we have a growing community and its amazing to see all the new faces.

You can hear about your Board by following this link: http://www.westrolleston.school.nz/school-community/establishment-bot  We also welcome the new teaching staff - we are 3 weeks in, and there is already a lot happening.

The Board had it's first meeting last week - we are finalising our Annual and Strategic Plan - this is the culmination of our community consultation, overall direction of the curriculum and the important areas for our children we want to focus on.  The final plan will be available to everyone in early March - suffice to say it is realistic, challenging and exciting!  Keep an eye out for it.

It's great to see the new courts pretty much finished - this is an important addition for our growing school.  We must acknowledge the  contribution from our hard-working parent group GROW who have made a significant financial contribution to this development.  We couldn't do it without their support - thank you.

On GROW - for our new families, and a reminder to everyone - this is our parent group that works tirelessly to help raise funds and organise events for the school.  It is an essential part of our community - so PLEASE PLEASE support GROW - go along to their meetings, offer your time and help where you can - it all comes back to supporting our children and making this the great school it is.  Watch out for their AGM in term 2 - and a call out for some new leaders to help run the group.

It's great to see everyone being as safe as possible with our transport/parking/crossing - yes it is congested at times - we all play a role in the way we can help in keeping our school safe.  Walking, scooting, parking and yes, even in the rain!  We will monitor the overall situation and we will do everything practical we can to make it safe for our school - but it requires us all to do our bit.

Finally, its election year for the Board of Trustees - a timetable of the election and some information sessions will be held soon.  This is a great opportunity for families who want to help with the governance of this school to put your hand up.  It isn't onerous, but it's an important part of delivering quality educational to our children.  Keep an eye out, and ask any of your current Board about their experiences!
