Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

The photo in this article is the first official photo of some our school band members getting underway with writing lyrics. We are very excited with the prospect of our learners developing their musical and creative passions playing instruments, writing and mixing music and getting to perform with the creation of a school band. Big thanks to Mr Otis Sole and Miss Emma Bennett who lead this work and we look forward to hearing some wee updates later this year.

On Wednesday lunchtime I also have the pleasure of seeing some of our other musical opportunities available to learners with Miss Bennett taking the junior waiata group and Mr George Harnett taking a group of enthusiastic learners for bucket drumming: https://youtu.be/00j6dMrq99k

It was clear to see the children love these experiences!

Wednesdays are also the day Kapahaka and Pasifika run. Special thanks to all of the people who make these awesome and very popular cultural opportunities happen: Miss Leigh Thrupp, Matua Te Huaki, Vaipou Shadwell and Mamaitaloa Sagapolutele.

Congratulations to our large team of runners who represented our school so well at the Cross Country Zones on Tuesday accompanied by Miss Bec Lambert, Miss Kendra Ward and Mrs Megan Murray. We also had some great teams participate in the Zone Basketball competition last week with Mr Kyle Seckold, Miss Elisabeth Baker, Miss Bec Lambert and Mrs Amanda Clarkson. A number of our learners have progressed through to represent our school zone at Canterbury Champs! GOOD LUCK.

It is exciting to see our new learning studio progressing along. The smaller building is a learning centre which will be used by staff to work with groups of learners [a great place hopefully for the band to practice!] Fingers and toes crossed that this space will be ready for Term 3!

Of course there has been great interest in our developing bike park as well which looks amazing! We are hoping for an opening sometime next term. More details to follow.

Over the past week our studio parent ambassadors, Chelsea, Carmen, Rachael, Sara, Laetitia, Nicole and Kate have sent out information via Hero about our GROW [PTA] raffle. We have had a wonderful  response from you already for our winter grocery prizes so Thank You to our awesome community.

Finally, speaking of an awesome community our Board of Trustees will shortly be sharing some timelines for our upcoming triennial Board Elections which we are hoping will stimulate lots of interest in our community. Look out for more information on this exciting opportunity to have a governance role on our BoT.

Ngā mihi
