Message from the Principal

Sylvia Fidow —

This week [and every week] I have had lots of our children coming over to share their amazing learning with me, and I have the privilege of listening to their learning story and then taking a photo of the evidence for my WOW wall in the library.

It is great to see how proud the children are of their learning. At this time of term I am perusing linc ed as well to look at the samples of learning that have been uploaded across the school. I hope you find these valuable as well and that they are a good prompt for you to discuss learning with your child. We are looking forward to the children uploading their own samples in the future.

This week has been another busy week with whānau groups participating in a 'golf in schools' programme. This has been very popular with the children. We have also had a couple of teams participating in the koru games designed for Y7/8 learners. The ki o rahi team won their pool and today are participating in the finals. I have received really positive reports about the behaviour and sportsmanship of the teams. Thanks to Mr Fraser Malins for organising this and coaching the ki o rahi team, to Dena Greene for coaching the football team and to all of our parents who have helped with the transport.

Good luck to our senior kapahaka group who are performing in Po Whakangāhau at Ellesmere College tonight, thanks to Miss Laura Finn and Miss Leigh Thrupp for supporting them there. We also have a group of Y5-8 children skiing tomorrow with Mrs Megan Murray and Mr Fraser Malins so good luck to them too.

Today, we had fifteen new learners visiting in Te Kete Kākano. Welcome to their new teacher who will start with them next term - Mrs Eran James. Please help to make everyone feel welcome in our school community. We anticipate our starting roll for Term 4 will be 460.

Finally, WOW! How amazing was the support for our cheese roll fund-raiser last Saturday. The organisation was immense from Jo Burnett and Steph Hautler and a BIG thank you to everyone who helped, including our amazing teachers who do not have children at this school! What a superb community we are.

Ngā mihi

Sylvia
