Mr Peng, our school dragon is very excited that tomorrow is Lunar New Year
He has decided to leave Mrs McCance's garage and come to school and celebrate with all of the children.
Lunar New Year is celebrated by many people all over the world. They use a lunar calendar, based on the moon instead of the solar calendar which has the new year starting on the 1st of January. This year the Lunar New Year begins on the 12th of February.
In China it is called Chinese New Year, and it is also called the Spring Festival.
Families gather together to honour their ancestors, eat delicious food and celebrate the Year of the Ox.
In Korea, it is called Seollal, and everyone has to eat a special rice cake so they can be one year older. Children play lots of traditional games.
In Vietnam, it is called Tet and families gather together and visit temples. The first visitor to your house during Tet is very special.
Lunar New Year is always celebrated for several days or weeks.
We would like to wish our families a very Happy Lunar New Year.
