Thank you for your support

Susan Jennison —

While we'd hoped to remain free of positive Covid cases at Westburn, we're pleased to know that our systems for responding to cases when they arise are working well.

Our aim has always been twofold - to prevent Covid cases at all and if we have a case, to ensure that its spread is reduced. To date, we haven't had an outbreak in any year group or class and we can confirm that only individual cases have been reported among our school community. This is confirmation that our distancing, mask-wearing and provision of regular break times are working as intended to minimise spread.

The number of household contacts and positive cases across Canterbury is increasing as the South Island begins to experience peak cases. To help you prepare, this Home Medical Management YouTube video by Dr Sandhya Ramanathan, an Auckland GP, could be helpful. Dr Ramanathan provides pragmatic advice on what to have at home in preparation for a case and how you can make sure your health is optimal to prevent contracting Covid in the first place.

Thank you also for your support in maintaining the privacy of those students who have been positive cases. No one catches Covid on purpose and we wish to avoid the unpleasant stigma that some people can attach to Covid cases.

We're aware that all parents are anxious to protect their children and we've identified quite different responses and levels of tolerance operating in our community. We appreciate that this is a challenging time and are thankful to all members of our community who are pulling together as we get through the Omicron wave.
