Positive Behaviour for Learning

Jayne Newlands —

These are the two goals we will be focusing on for Weeks 1 & 2 of Term 3.

Week 1

We play games that keep everyone safe. (Citizenship - Around our school)

The winter terms are really hard on our students. The red flags are often up, preventing us from accessing the grassed areas at school and students are forced closer together onto the concrete areas. It is important that our students begin to think about the types of games they are playing.

Are they safe? Could they be better? Who is nearby?

We want to encourage students to think not only of their own involvement in games but also about how the decisions they make can impact others around them.

Week 2

We try to solve problems ourselves and know when to seek help ( Excellence - Around our school)

We would like all of our students to be problem solvers and look for ways to show independence and initiative. This is part of developing resilience and self-management however, knowing when to get help is a skill that we all need to work on.

You can help your children with these goals by;

  • Asking about the games they are choosing to play at break times.
  • Having conversations about who they have to think about as they play and asking them about how they are being safe and inclusive.
  • Modelling and talking about who helps them at home and how they ask for support from others.
