Refurbishment update 21

Susan Jennison —

As you will have seen on your return this week, there has been a great deal of work onsite during the school holidays.

Canterbury blocks

The refurbishment of Block 4 (Rooms 10-13) is very nearly complete, with finishing touches being added to the building this week. We're delighted with the resulting spaces and will be working them hard so that we can refine and improve the design for the subsequent two blocks.

The internal demolition of Block 1 (Rooms 1-5) has begun. As this block also includes the ESOL Room, the Multipurpose Room and several storage spaces, this is a slightly more complex refurbishment.

Admin block

The roof on our admin block is currently being replaced, as evidenced by the scaffolding, action and noise in this area. We apologise for the disruption this causes when you visit us in this block, and are happy to confirm that it won't take too much longer. The Waimairi Road side of the roof is now complete and work has begun on the school side today.

The Hann Consutruction team has been working late nights, early mornings and weekends in an attempt to complete the work quickly, and we're grateful for their efforts.

New block

This block is really coming along. Over the holidays the roof and window/door joinery were installed and since then they've been working on the cladding. Now that we can see the internal spaces taking shape, it's easier to imagine the classrooms and library that will be available to us soon.

Entrance

Rather like a game of Dominoes, work in some areas of the school can't take place until other work is complete. The Board of Trustees is managing the development of the entrance and has some exciting design features to install. This work has already been started and will continue as soon as the scaffolding required for the roof repair can be removed.

Musician's Corner and remainder of the Scooter Track

Similarly to our entrance works, the development of an outdoor space connecting the Music Suite, the senior playground and the library is underway. This area has already been designed and, like the remainder of the Scooter Track, will be undertaken once construction of the new block is complete.

Seating around miniball court

H3 Builders have constructed some fabulous new seats around our miniball court. These are already functioning well and are sought after during breaks. Planting of the garden areas within the seats will take place soon.

Bike Sheds

Thanks to the amazing people of WSCA, new covered bike and scooter stands are available on both our north and south boundaries. These wonderful facilities provide safe storage and access for our students, removing the need for them to walk on the driveway to get to their bikes and scooters.

We're still waiting on some signage that will screen the southern sheds from passers-by and then these facilities will be complete.

Thank you

We're grateful that our community supported us by not using our grounds over the break, allowing Hann Construction to make rapid progress. Thank you for working with us in this way.

Thank you also for your patience with the detours and noise on site at present. As we can see from Rooms 10-13, the disruption is definitely worth the disruption!
