Cantamath 2018

Jane Lennon —

Westburn School achieved great success at this year's Cantamath competition.

The annual Cantamath competition was held last Wednesday at Horncastle Arena.  Westburn had a Year 7 team and a Year 8 team in the teams competition and our Year 6's submitted displays into the visual competition.

Both our teams of problem solvers trained hard after school for a term and a half, honing their skills and challenging themselves with difficult maths problems. The Year 7 team of Petar, Dominic, Jessica (Yr 6) and Samuel (Yr 6) scored a very respectable 80 out of 100. The Year 8 team, Maddie, James, Lucas and Joshua (Reserve Harrison) finished 4th overall and was one of only 5 schools to get a "Golden Ticket" for achieving 100 points. They got to 100 with 3 minutes to spare!

In the displays competition, 8 students achieved awards of Excellence:  Catriona, Hayden, Finn, Derrick, Elliot, Roi, Joe, and Romy and 10 students achieved Highly Commended awards:  Angel, Samantha, Evangeline, Benjamin, Lucia, Meg, Austin,  Archie, Jono and Woo-Seok.

I would like to congratulate all the students for the amount of time and effort they put into the competition.
