Pepeha art Room 13
We are learning our pepeha in Te Reo Māori and created these artworks to celebrate our heritage.
With help from their whānau, students identified which mountain (maunga) and river (awa) represent their family. We used this information to write our pepeha, and then practised saying it aloud with correct pronunciation. It was really interesting to find out about where our families are from!
In art we created a visual representation of our heritage, drawing our mountain and river, adding one koru to represent each family member, and creating a kowhaiwhai pattern at the top. We finished off our work by adding our photo and a copy of our pepeha.
Some students from Room 13 had the opportunity to share their art and pepeha at our Team 2 hui last Friday, and they did a great job. Our next challenge is to memorise our pepeha so we can introduce ourselves confidently in Te Reo Māori.
