Getting ready for BYOD in 2021
It's time to start thinking about BYOD if your student is going to be in Years 5-8 in 2021.
As you may be aware, we operate voluntary ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) in our Years 5-8 teams. BYOD was established at Westburn in 2016 following considerable research into 1:1 device usage and consultation with the Westburn parent community. As BYOD is voluntary, we also maintain some devices in each team for children who do not bring their own device to school on a 1:3 ratio.
Which device?
For those parents who wish to purchase a device for their child’s exclusive use at school, we annually recommend a range of devices for purchase. These are identified on the BYOD section of our school website and range from entry-level (Acer C733 Chromebook 11”) to higher-specification models (HP Notebook with Intel Core i5 Quad-Core 16GB 256GB SSD or Apple 13” MacBook Air). For the last few years, we have worked closely with The Warehouse Group (formally known as the Noel Leeming Group), as their support packages and pricing are competitive, and their staff are knowledgeable and easy to deal with. While we recommend certain devices as good for children and compatible with our school infrastructure, please note that students can bring and use any device that meets our school requirements as listed on the reverse of this page.
Do you have questions?
The information on our school website outlines our reasons for moving to the way in which devices are used in class and some of the professional learning that teachers have undertaken in using devices in learning programmes.
