Cantamath 2017

Jane Lennon —

The annual Cantamath competition was held last Wednesday at the Horncastle Arena.

We had two teams competing. The teams trained hard on Wednesdays after school for nearly two terms! Both teams performed very well, doing themselves and our school proud.

The Year 8 team, James Wang, Jacky Zhang, Karen Huang and Lena Ahn finished 4th with a total of 95 points. They answered 19 out of the 20 questions correctly in the half hour they had.

The Year 7 team, Harrison Hadlee-Watts, Madeleine Dawson, Danielle Saxon and Lucas Wieblitz scored 65 points, answering 13 questions correctly. This gained them 6th place. The top score in  the Year 7 competition was 80 points.

Another important part of Cantamath is the displays. We had  many  of our year 6 - 8 students' work on display at the Horncastle Arena and our results from the judges were outstanding. We achieved 17 Excellence and 13 Highly Commended awards  for Year 6,  11 Excellence and 11 Highly Commended awards for Year 7 and 5 Excellence and 5 Highly Commended awards for Year 8. We were so proud of the effort and hard work that went into all the Cantamath projects that our students did.

Congratulations to everyone involved and a big thank you to all the teachers.
