Whānau Māori Wānanga
In a first for Westburn, Ms Jane Lennon has initiated a series of te reo Māori lessons for whānau in response to a request at last year's Whānau Hui.
While we've provided translation and language support for non-English speakers at school, we've never directly provided support for Whānau Māori.
The first two classes have been well received, with parents, children, and staff turning up to take part and to learn from and alongside each other. We appreciate that it's a challenge to get to yet another event, particularly at dinnertime and on a cold night, and have been impressed by the response we've received.
We're very fortunate to have Jane's skills within our school and also to have whānau willing to partner with us in this way.
The next session will be on Wednesday 05 May at 5:30 pm in Room 7.
