Room 15 and the Tennis Racquet Quest by Naomi Wan
Six days ago Room 15 began their quest to get a tennis racquet out from under the classroom.
First we had to make a simple machine, we used: rulers, a clothes hanger hook that Joanna brought, tape and a piece of decking wood that Mrs O brought to school. We taped the rulers together and Joanna used her clothes hanger hook at the end of the rulers. Then we all went outside to trial the machine, but there was an error, so Mrs O brought the machine back inside and we started adding more equipment to it.
After the adding equipment process we went outside and tried again. This time it got hold of the racquet, but we couldn’t get it out. Finally we all decided that we would just use the decking wood to get the racquet out. Mrs O also had two pieces of bamboo, so all we had to do was get the clothes hanger hook off the rulers and stick it to the decking wood.
We went outside and we put the machine under the classroom. I used my binoculars to guide the children and the machine. Ee Thern hooked the hook on the racquet, and we got it closer. Then he and Samuel used rulers to lever it up. Samuel put his hand under the classroom and grabbed the racquet out! We all shouted, “yahoo, hip hip hooray, yay, yes!”
This was an extraordinary simple machine quest!
