Introducing Jay Brantley from 24-7

Susan Jennison —

A joint funding agreement between our Board of Trustees and St Christopher's Church has provided us with access to a 24-7 Youthworker - Jay Brantley.

Jay met our senior teams at the end of last year and this year has already begun to establish himself as a member of our team. Having been working in youth work roles for several years, Jay is excited to start this new role with the students of Westburn School.

Jay's role at Westburn is an organic one that will respond to the needs of our school and any events that occur each term. In general, a typical week will usually involve him being present throughout the lunch hour, running lunchtime activities, joining in with sport or simply hanging out with our students.

The remaining hours Jay spends at our school may involve mentoring student leaders, attending performance practices, one-on-one mentoring, helping out with school trips, coaching sports teams, etc.

We are fortunate that Westburn students have high standards of behaviour, so Jay's role won't be limited to working with 'difficult' or at-risk students. Instead, he'll be available to help those who might benefit from some support and encouragement. As an adult who is not a teacher, he'll also provide an invaluable link between staff and students ensuring that communication between these groups is enhanced.

Nationally, 24-7 Youthwork's current focus is Years 7-13, so Jay will work predominantly with our Years 7 and 8 students.
