Junior Extension Music (JEM)

The Junior Extension Music programme is for students from Years 2-4 who are interested in developing their musical skills.

JEM 1 caters for students in Year 2/3 who show musical interest and aptitude. Musical skills and concepts are introduced through listening and playing percussion instruments, descant recorder and marimba/tuned percussion in weekly creative playful sessions. Students need their own recorder and a clear-file folder for music.

Classes are held weekly on Monday afternoons 1.30 in the music room.

JEM 2 enables students who completed JEM 1 in 2024 to transition to the next level and is a progressive development of the musical skills and understandings already introduced - building on recorder skills, tuned percussion playing, performance and musical improvisation. These students will prepare for the Strum Strike Blow Christchurch Schools performance at the Christchurch Arena in August 2025 with 1500 primary school children on recorder, marimba or ukulele. Monday classes are in the music room at 2.15.

Please confirm your child's enrolment in Jem 2 with Heather by December 12th.

The SENIOR ENSEMBLE held during Monday lunchtime caters for Years 5 -8 students who have been in the JEM programme previously. The main focus will be advanced recorder preparation to perform at the prestigious Strum Strike and Blow primary schools event in the Arena in Term 3, as well as building on the impressive musical skills and creative composition demonstrated by these former JEM students.

FEES

The annual fee for each programme is $195.00.
