At Westburn Te Kura o Hereora, we offer a diverse range of sporting opportunities for our ākonga, catering to all year levels across the school.
For our senior students (Years 5-8), we host specific events that allow them to compete against peers within Westburn. Top-performing students are then selected to represent Westburn in both the North West and Canterbury Central Zones competitions. The representative events include:
Swimming
Cross Country Running
Basketball
Winter Sports: Football, Netball, Hockey, Rugby, Table Tennis*, Squash*, Development Series*
Athletics
(*Please note: Table Tennis, Squash, and Development Series do not have associated North West or Central Zones competitions.)
Additional term-specific sports are offered weekly, including Basketball, Water Polo, Mini Polo, and Touch Rugby.
We also connect our ākonga to a variety of external sports opportunities, such as Mountain Biking, Cricket, Badminton, Ripper Rugby and Rugby, Future Ferns Netball, and Pouākai & Rams Basketball.
Every Friday morning, we offer the Westburn Advanced Sports Programme (WASP) to Year 6-8 students, which provides additional training across different sports disciplines. WASP also covers essential topics like nutrition and managing sporting commitments. Click here to learn more about WASP.
