Trying a new sport can be very challenging!
A group of year 5 and 6's have been representing Westburn school at the Mini Polo competition run by Canterbury Water Polo on Sunday afternoons.
This term, the games have been held at Rangiruru School in their outdoor pool. This has presented the teams with lots of challenges. It is a deeper-than-expected pool so our players have had to learn very quickly to swim for the ball and throw while keeping afloat. This is hard to do.
Mini polo is an adapted sport to introduce players to the expectations and skills needed to play Water Polo when they are older. Their sessions are divided into two 20-minute slots. First, they have a skills session taken by CWP coaches and then a game against other school teams.
For many of our students, this is a new sport.
Keep an eye out for expressions of interest in joining this fun sport in Term 2.
