Mrs Hetherington
Ms Hetherington is one of our Physical Education and Health teachers and is the Middle school Academic and Pastoral Care Leader.
Kia Ora and a warm welcome to our newest students and families joining the school community!
I’m Michelle Hetherington, and I look after the well-being and academic progress of our students as the Academic and Pastoral Leader (APL) for Years 9 and 10. I’ve been in APL roles for the last 18 months, and my main focus is making sure every student is happy, supported, and challenged enough to reach their own personal success. I’m an experienced teacher who came to Hokitika two years ago after ten great years teaching at an intermediate school in Christchurch. This means I know exactly what a big jump it is moving into high school, and I'm here to help navigate that transition. You’ll also find me in the gym or out on the fields, as I’ve recently become one of your PE teachers - a perfect fit for me!
Outside of school, I’m an absolute enthusiast for fitness, the outdoors, and just about any sport. I’m highly competitive, but I also enjoy a good laugh and aim to build strong, positive relationships with the students. I have two young boys myself, one at preschool and one at St Mary’s Primary, so my family keeps me busy and active! Ultimately, I’m keen to be a supportive mentor for your child, ensuring their time in Years 9 and 10 is successful, rewarding, and fun. Please feel free to get in touch; I look forward to working with you all!
