Hillview Hockey tournament

Westland High School —

The year 7 and 8 Hockey team recently competed in a Hockey tournament at Hillview School, with great results.

The year 7 and 8 WHS hockey team competed at the Hillview Invitational Hockey tournament this week and placed fourth overall a fantastic achievement considering thy were playing against some of the country's top teams (gold medal winners from last years Aim's games included).

Initially the WHS team had a slow start but they found their groove by the second game and managed to get a win of 11 to 2. One of the games they played they scored 20 to 1, while a couple of the other games were more challenging for them. But they played with heart to go into the semi finals play off and got 4th place against Mayfield School, with another score of 11 to 1. Well done to all players the school is very proud of your efforts.

Off the turf, we made connections with a range of other teams, and a particularly strong one with Mayfield School, Mid Canterbury. Reports say our team was a joy to be around and were always great ambassadors for our school and town.

Thanks must go to the local Hokitika Hockey Club for the season of training and matches that helped so much with skills development. Thanks to the team, Zana Simpson, Abby Ritchie, Tamsin Gillespie, Rea Judd, Thomas Bisdee, and in particular to the captain and coach for leading the team, Caden Manuel.
