Are you interested in recording local histories or family history? If so then this is the workshop for you, don't miss out!

Recording Oral Histories Workshop

A 2 session workshop for those interested in recording oral histories. These may be 3 minute snippets or longer in-depth interviews - whatever participants want.

Tutor: Braydon Priest, Content Manager, The Breeze. Braydon is a former WHS student. He has tutored at the NZ Broadcasting School and run 8 workshops (4 days each) through The Learning Place, Dunedin for Year 13 students.

Location: Westland High School Library, 140 Hampden St, Hokitika

Date: Saturday 19 October; 9 am - 5 pm with lunch break

Cost: $25

Session 1

A) Cost effective technology. Bring your smartphone or laptop with microphone or dictaphone. He would share what other options are available that could be purchased.

B) Establishing rapport, asking questions to get the best stories

C) information on recording, editing if needed, (using free editing software) and exporting to storage or radio broadcast.

D) identifying people to be interviewed

Session 2

4 weeks later, half day to a day duration. Participants bring their interviews to edit and export to storage or radio broadcast. Braydon has a small radio station In Hokitika and he would be willing to broadcast interviews.
