We had two teams head to the WCSS tournament in Karamea on the 25th June.

On the 25th June both a boys and girls team represented Westland High in the West Coast secondary school open football tournament which was held in Karamea. The teams comprised of Nate Croy, Daniel Williams, Alex Morris, Kenneth Rowley, Sam Nichols, Trevor Rowley, Madison Given, Madi Staton, Rohatai Fernandez, Beata Koprowski, Ruby Bradley, Taylor Jefferys, Ella Stewart and Eilish Johnston.

It was the first time that WHS had a girls’ team and a few of the girls were even playing football for the first time. They did so well that they came second in the tournament. It was a great team effort and the sportsmanship shown by the girls was top notch. Eilish Johnston even scored a hattrick!

The boys team were extraordinary in their performance, they came 4th inthe tournament overall and had some stiff competition to get to that placing. It was a really big accomplishment. 

We are proud of both teams for the hard work they put into the tournament. The sportsmanship shown within both teams was exceptional. Well done to you all.
