A great day for rugby.

Mr M. Waller - Sports Academy teacher —

The 1XV and U15's rugby played against Buller High School this week.

With Buller rugby coming down for the day our under 15 side both young and mixed did a great job against a powerful and skilled Buller side. They came away winners by 7 points in a high scoring game.

The 1XV started the week with 14 but took the field with 19 players 12 new caps and some of those new to rugby. Daniel (Ninja) Williams who was one of several boys to play their hearts out is pictured throwing the ball in for Layk to catch at the line out.

Man of the match and multiple try scorer Jesse Jones took time in the after match to thank our manager and Medic without who the sport could not continue.

I was personally really proud of the team spirit and improvements in the boys. Mitchell Jones had a storming game, really developing into a leader on the field and captain Sean worked tirelessly to keep his boys in it till the very last moment.

Unfortunately we went down by one point to another strong Buller side but a dramatic improvement on last year. Well done to the 40+ rugby players today.
