Course selection information

Westland High School —

The aim of this publication is to provide a guide to students in planning their pathways towards further education, training and employment.

Westland High has a broad range of courses from which to choose. Course selection is important when considering future careers and job aspirations, please consider your choices carefully. The teachers at Westland High School will help in any way possible to assist students with subject selection, and if required they can discuss career pathways and prerequisites.

On occasion a particular course may not be available face to face, should this occur we will work with the student to support their learning through an extramural option i.e video conferencing through NetNZ with a teacher from another school; or Te Kura the correspondence school.

If you do not know what you want to do in your future, do not worry, that is extremely common. Keep your options broad. What are you interested in? What are you good at?

It is important to make sensible decisions about your future so please talk to your caregivers, your careers advisor (Mr Tapper), your APL's, current subject teachers and Heads of Learning Areas to help inform your decisions. If you would like to choose Gateway or a Trades Academy course you must see Ms Kristy Veale or Mrs Reeves.

Some courses may require prior learning in order to gain entry. Please note that subject availability is dependent on numbers, staffing and possible timetable constraints.
