School expectation reminders

Westland High School —

It's important to remember what the school expectations are, included in the article are a reminder of some of our school expectations.

Vehicle Permission:

Students bringing vehicles to school need to have completed their vehicle permission form (available from the office) and return it to school. Their use of the vehicle, and any passengers that they may carry are limited by the conditions of their licence.

Lunch Passes:

Students leaving school at lunch time will need to have a lunch pass. The conditions of the lunch pass are that they go to the address specified on the lunch pass. Students leaving school may be asked for their pass. A photo of the pass on their phone is accepted. Please note: a lunch pass does not allow students to go to the supermarket.

Students Leaving School:

Students leaving school need to sign out (with a valid reason, i.e: appointment, driving lessons, work experience placements, etc...). Students who are unwell and need to go home must go to the office and they will assist in arranging for the student going home. During the school day, students are not permitted to wander down to the shops to get food or other items. Food is available on site at the Kai Whakapai and can be ordered online as well as a pre-paid account facility.

Students with Flu or cold symptoms:

Students with cold or flu symptoms should remain at home. If symptoms persist they should seek medical advice.

Attendance:

The school has a high attendance expectation. A minimum of 93% attendance is the benchmark for all students. Students are expected to be in every class, including whanau, at least 93% of the time. Students who have unjustified absences and are below 93% in any class or whanau class will not be permitted to attend non-curricular activities i.e the school ball, sports such as netball, rugby, koru games, etc.

There may be extenuating circumstances where attendance is below expectation, these are looked at on a case by case basis, for example the student has been absent due to illness, family reasons or attending a tangi for example. The Academic and Pastoral Leaders have the delegated authority to manage this and to determine if a student may attend a non curricular event.
