Highlights from Term 3

Student Representative elections have been held and the board would like to congratulate Alexander Sever. Alexander has been elected by his student peers.  This role brings a unique perspectives and insights to the decision-making process ensuring that student voices are heard and valued within the governance structure.
We extend our gratitude to Sam Green for his dedicated service as the student representative on the school board over the past year. His commitment, enthusiasm, and thoughtful contributions have greatly enriched the discussions and decision-making processes within the board.

Last term the board took a comprehensive look at student achievement, analysing data and trends to identify areas of strength and areas that require further attention and improvement. By closely examining student performance, the board aims to enhance academic outcomes and support mechanisms that foster student success. The commitment to continuous improvement and accountability underscores the board's dedication to providing a high-quality education that meets the diverse needs of all students.

The board is committed to ongoing professional development and each term though our providers at NZSBA we undertake workshops focusing on governance in schools.  This term the focus was on addressing concerns and complaints within the educational institution. This workshop aimed to equip board members with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively handle and resolve issues raised by parents, staff, and other stakeholders. Through interactive sessions and case studies, participants gained insights into best practices for managing concerns and complaints in a fair, transparent, and timely manner.

Our concerns and complaints policy can be found here, we encourage you to make yourselves familiar with this policy.  The school values your feedback and appreciate you working with us to communicate this through the correct lines: www.westlandhigh.school.nz/intranet/policies-and-procedures
