Westland High celebrate PRIDE.

Westland High School —

Students organised a free mufti day to celebrate Global PRIDE day (Saturday 2th June) at school.

A few of the students/staff available on the day, came to have their photo taken to celebrate Global Pride Day this week. Students had free face paint on offer for those who wanted to add an extra splash of colour.

Whanaungatanga and Manaakitanga are two of our core school values, and they are all about including, and caring about people. Many students and staff showed their support for inclusion and caring about people, and their identities, by wearing mufti on Tuesday, and by choosing to wear bright colours, or pride flag colours.

This year InsideOUT has initiated New Zealand's first ever National School's PRIDE week from 24th - 28th August. A range of events and activities are being planned nationwide in schools. A range of ideas are available on their website, InsideOUT, along with resources. InsideOUT is a national organisation with the vision for all rainbow young people in Aotearoa New Zealand to have a sense of safety and belonging in their schools and communities.

Well done to the students who organised the muftiday and to all the students and staff who participated.
