Read on to hear about some of the differences they have noticed between life in New Zealand and in France.

Below is a piece from Pauline describing the differences she has noticed. All of the students have had the opportunity to participate in Outdoor Education, Cactus, Physical Education, Rugby, and improve their English in the ESOL class.

Kiego Itani from Japan, who is here with us until August, continues to be involved in many sports and is a great ambassador for Japan with his cheerful and outgoing nature.

Comparisons

After one week in Hokitika I have noticed these differences from my life in France.

There are many differences between my life here and my life in France. Here we eat dinner earlier than in France. Here it’s about 6 o’clock. In France it’s more about 8 o ’clock.

The time when we start and finish school is also different. In France we start earlier and finish later than here. Often school begins at 8 o’clock and ends at 5 or 6 o’clock.

At school, the relationship between teacher and student is very different. In France it is more formal than here.

Here people usually don’t eat dessert after dinner. In France we very often eat dairy or fruits.

Here people wear more casual clothes than in France.
