Westland High School 2019 Ball

Ms Hutt - Deputy Principal Ako —

The Roman Chorus Ball was a spectacular success!

On Friday 5 July, Westland High School held our annual ball, returning to the school site for the first time in three years. It was great to see community involvement, with the library packed with members of the community, and also many were outside to cheer the students on as well.

Our gymnasium looked amazing, and many thanks to the Hokitika Lions Club for the decorations and the support in putting them up and taking them down. We ran a live feed on Facebook for the first time, and many people who couldn't get there to watch on the night followed it on Facebook. Thanks to Belinda Conn for the idea and then making it happen.

We'd also like to thank everyone who helped make the evening a success — the Friends of the School, who ran the drinks for the evening (in costume!), the teachers, parents and students involved in the Italy trip, who made the supper, Katrina Thornley, who did the formal photographs, and everyone who helped set up and then clean up the next day. In particular, the ball committee did a great job of getting everything organised and staying cheerful. These senior students really went the extra mile, and thank you very much to them all.

King of the ball for 2019 was Kalib Palmer, and queen was Lauren Graham. Best dressed boy was Gwen Bodiou, one of our French visitors, and best dressed girl was Nikita Towers. The salsa competition was won by Resina Gilmour and Hayley Hutchinson. Again, thank you to everyone who made it happen!
