Our careers information and guidance programe is organised to meet the needs of our students. Activities are aimed at increasing students' awareness of the career options open to them, and motivating and focusing students to think about their options for the future.

University of Canterbury Update

UC has a new degree. The Bachelor of Youth and Community Leadership (BYCL) will be offered from 2020 subject to New Zealand CUAL approval. The degree will develop professional leadership and entrepreneurial skills for anyone passionate about issues such as sustainability, human rights, equality, and humanitarian efforts. Victoria University- new degree for 2020

Designed to take advantage of the University’s capital city location, the Bachelor of Communication will offer a range of majors found at no other New Zealand tertiary institution. They are: Intercultural Communication, Media Studies, Literary and Creative Communication, Political Communication, and Science Communication.

Victoria also offer a series of publications called Career View which look at career options from their degrees. These are worth looking at if you are wondering where a particular subject could lead.

Te Pūtairiki

April 6 or 7 (date to be confirmed) ​Ellie Pearson, Vice-President of the Te Pūtairiki (Māori Law Society). Māori Law Society visit to engage with senior students at school who may be thinking of going University in 2021. The intention being to enlighten the students with what UC has to offer within the law and business school and in particular what support Te Pūtairiki has to offer for students who are thinking of studying law and may be of Māori descent. ​10 executive members, as well as one of their law Professors will be travelling over.

The 2020 POWER CAREER DAY. Christchurch, Thursday 23 July 2020 Canterbury University. This annual event allows students to meet recent graduate engineers and experienced representatives from the electricity industry and discuss career opportunities and pathways for future engineers.

CAREERS TRANSPORT 2020

Friday 20th March 9am-1pm

An opportunity for Year 10-13 students interested in a career in the transport industry to learn about the variety of pathways open to them. The transport industry plays a crucial role in keeping New Zealand’s economy going. Without it, the country would come to a complete stop. The career opportunities within transport are extensive and many of them are often overlooked. The industry is screaming out for the next generation and new talent to jump on board and find their place in the world of transport. There are some fantastic opportunities out there!
