Westland High School Soroptimists
The Westland High Soroptimist School Club was chartered on Friday 16 October - making it the first such club in the Soroptimist federation of 12 countries (from Mongolia to Samoa).
The club has 20 student members and is mentored by Soroptimist International of Westland's Co President Raelene McMullan and supported by club member, Yvonne Simpson who is the Federation's Membership Convenor. The students were presented with pins to commemorate their membership and the school was presented with their certificate of charter.
Alice Noble, a founding member of the Westland Club, which was formed in 1982, was also presented with a pin and flowers to celebrate 46 years of support.
There has been a lot of interest in the Westland High School club, with enquiries coming from other New Zealand and Australian clubs that may follow the example of the Westland High School club.
Student members have been active throughout the year, holding awareness campaigns on inclusiveness and mental health.
