Update from the Runanga Tauira

Kyah Te Kira Nolan and Rebecca Davis —

This term has been a busy term trying to get events up and running, but thanks to our Runanga Tauira, along with teacher and student support, we have had a few successful events commence i.e Pink shirt day. It was awesome to see so many students wearing pink in support of anti bullying and the New Zealand mental health foundation. As well as the Pink Shirts there are posters up around the school with anti bullying slogans on them, since no one should be bullied in a safe space.

Last week Westland High School held an Open Evening for new students and parents to come and look around our amazing school. There were around 50 people that attended and it was wonderful to see all the parents and possible new students be introduced in the best way possible, with them seeing what we as a school have to offer both academically and physically. Special thanks to all the students and teachers that helped out with this event it wouldn’t be possible without you guys!!

On Monday the 13th of May we had the annual Cross Country. Thank you to everyone that took part in this event it was awesome to see the amount of people that turned up and gave it their all. Congratulations everyone who participated and gave it a go! Overall we had some amazing times such as the top three placings for the girls; Ella towers (1st), Cassidy Bradley (2nd) and Jessica Berry (3rd). And the boys; Layk Scowen (1st), Waylon Caldwell (2nd) and Sam Hewitt (3rd). With overall the fastest competitor was Layk Scowen.
