West Coast Secondary Korfball Champs
On Tuesday Westland High School hosted our first ever West Coast Secondary Schools Korfball Championships under our covered courts.
We had 5 teams enter the competition from Buller High School A and B (BHS), Greymouth High School (GHS) and Westland High School A and B (WHS). Thanks to Korfball Canterbury for bringing their gear over and officials to help facilitate this awesome (and hopefully annual) event.
Our B team was full of korfball first timers where they had lots of learning, laughs and passion for the sport. It was awesome to see our young ones challenge themselves and take on this fast paced mixed gender sport. WHS B won against BHS B 6-2, drew against BHS A in a low scoring game 2-2, lost to GHS in a nail biter by one 6-5 and lost to our WHS A team.
Our A team came away champions of the day with their undefeated innings, 20-2 against BHS B, 11-3 against BHS A, 13-6 against GHS and a win against our B team.
We are hoping to send one team to Senior South Island Secondary School tournament (SISS) in September and another one to junior SISS in October to represent our school. It’s not too late to give this sport a go, especially if you’re in year 9 and 10!
