Year 12 and 13 music trip to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra

by Dr T. Shawcross - Music and Photography teacher.

The Year 12 and 13 music students undertook a trip to Christchurch on the 3rd of August to see the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra perform the score from Star Wars 'A New Hope' live and in sync with a showing of the film at Addington Arena. This offered our students an opportunity to hear a live orchestra in concert performing familiar and accessible repertoire. The students had a great time and came away with a better understanding of orchestral music and its associated performance practice. They also gleaned some information around the complexities of presenting large scale ensemble performances with media elements.
