A Happy Week for Westmere
Last week was a very happy week for our school
The visit from the Prime Minister was an exciting day. Within the restrictions of time and security, most children were able to see her. Our leadership team also got to share our views on some of the current issues facing education; recruitment, communities of learning, meeting the needs of all of our students, measuring and reporting achievement and of course the new collective agreement for teachers.
It was a great week for our teachers accepting the collective agreement. It has given our profession a real lift.
It is usual for the school to hold a teacher only day in Term 4, but we put this on hold until the contract was settled as were unsure of further strike action and the effects of this on the community. Now the contract has been agreed we have added the date to the Term 4 calendar. The school will be closed for the teacher only day on Friday 25th October (the Friday prior to Labour Day Monday 28th October). The final day of Term 4 will be Thursday 19th December.
The comedy night on Friday was a fantastic evening. Thanks again to Helen, Tash, and Dallas and to the wider team who made the event a huge success.
And also thanks to Edward Sergeant for our new fence along the library gardens. We loved seeing the children with drills and hammers putting up the posts that have been painted by the students. The new feature brings a splash of colour and a really happy vibe to this corner of the school. These projects are impossible without your support so thanks Edward for being such a great supporter of our school. Thanks also to Robyn McKenzie from LS5 for being an enviro champion and great role model for our students.
