On a cold May Friday evening...

Waiana Jones —

Westmere School's first whole school disco!

The Hall looked amazing thanks to our many volunteers who climbed great heights and got the job done in time. With fluorescent dancers and hanging lanterns the Hall was beginning to take shape for a totally fantastic Disco.

The popcorn and juices were ready to be sold, hosts Gina and I had our 80’s themed costumes ready and all that was needed now were the children and boy did they look fabulous.

With an 80’s themed Disco the kids came in neon leg warmers, fishnet gloves, Michael Jacksons to Hip Hop Run DMC themes, Grease, Tie Dye, Break Dancers to Slash; and Cyndi Lauper inspired Legends. I am sure the parents and Caregivers were happy to introduce their kids to their past times.

With 94% junior and 80% senior tickets sold needless to say the Hall was Hot! The Dance floor was pumping and the windows were fogged. With an hour for the juniors and just a little over an hour for the seniors this was more than enough time to dance off. As the night came to a close and the big bright lights were on it was clear the children had a lot of fun. There were some hot, sweaty and red faced cheeks. Thank you families for letting us have your children for a short time. I hope you enjoyed your free time.

To all the many people who made this night a success: To our many volunteers; some who risked an arm and a leg setting up, the parents/caregivers who were selling items while dancing in the kitchen, those at the door to the people who stayed behind to help clean up. Thank you all. The disco would not be successful without all your help.

A huge thanks to DJ Peter. The music was on point, the lights were amazing and DJ Peter once again true to form was AWESOME!

To our surprise special guests Peter Vosper of Vospertron: Neon Dance and Multimedia Company along with Layla Walter (mum to Billie Barraud-Smith in LS3). Thank you for giving up your time and for your performance. I know it was a big risk allowing us at Westmere to experience your show and to be so close to your highly expensive equipment. The kids were incredibly surprised and in awe. We appreciate and value your time with us so thank you.

Lastly thank you Westmere School (teachers and staff) for allowing us to take part in organising the Disco. It was initially a daunting experience having to organise with a short turnaround however, I would highly recommend doing something like this again because the positive feedback received, seeing the kids all dancing with their happy faces made all the hard work worth it. (Plus the 80’s was such a great era)

Dudes and dudettes of Westmere School you like tooootally rocked!
