Jammies for June Pyjama Competition
We have a hotly contested competition running between the studios to collect pyjamas to support Jammies for June. This initiative provides every child who visits Kidz First Children's Hospital with a warm pair of pyjamas. This year, they are aiming for 25,000 pairs for 25,000 kids.
Each studio has different targets to work towards. There are bar graphs up in each studio, and the children have been updating them daily. There has been a lot of comparing and checking other studios. Please ask your child about it.
Keeping Ourselves Safe
Keeping Ourselves Safe lessons began this week. This often generates some interesting discussion around the dining room table. Just a reminder, all the lessons and what is covered can be found on the NZ Police website here.
Year 6 Kaitiaki & Kaimahi
A shout-out to our Kaimahi PE & Sport, who this week started Junior Sports at lunchtimes on Thursdays. This awesome bunch of Year 6s showed amazing leadership, organising and running sports games with our littlest Westmere-ians.
Book Parade & Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who has supported the book fair and especially to the volunteers who braved the hordes of frenzied shoppers and assisted Jo! Tomorrow is the last day.
We were so impressed with all the effort that went into the costumes. There were so many different book characters and we heard lots of great recommendations being shared.

Reminder: Health and Safety
We lock our gates from 9-2:45pm each day. We know this can cause some inconvenience for whānau, so have not made this decision lightly. At the moment, this is an important health and safety decision to keep our tamariki safe. We will re-visit this decision at the start of Term 3.
Entry into the school between 9am and 2:45pm should be through our school office. Thanks for your support!
Disco Tickets on Sale Now!
WHAT: “Welcome to the Jungle” Disco (in the School Hall)
WHEN: Thursday, 25 June 2026
SESSIONS: There are two Disco sessions:
Year 1 & 2 - 5 to 6pm
Year 3 & 4 - can choose which session they prefer
Year 5 & 6 - 6:15 to 7:30pm
COST: Tickets are $10 each and include a slice of pizza. $12 for wristbands for extras (see below)
PURCHASE HERE: TICKETS (on our school website - go to Shop > Westmere School Supporters).
Wristband tickets will come home with students the week of the disco.
SNACKS & EXTRAS: There will be snacks, drinks and iceblocks, plus other goodies like face paint, animal tattoos, glowsticks and a photobooth available at the Disco (most are $2 each). You can pre-purchase a $12 voucher (as a cashless option), or bring cash on the night (coins are ideal, no notes over $20 please).
If you purchase a $12 voucher, your child will be given a separate wristband to wear on the night and each time they “purchase” something it will be marked on their wristband.
PARENT HELP: We need YOUR help to make this Disco happen.
Please use this linkto join the WhatsApp group of helpers. You can help with either the junior or senior disco (or both). Jobs include – handing out pizza, monitoring the photo booth, face painting, tattooing, selling glowsticks, or in the kitchen (selling food and drinks). Two/three volunteers are needed per activity per disco (ideally, 10 volunteers per disco). Also, feel free to contact Sarah-Jane Lawson (William’s mum) directly on 021 710 897 if you are able to help
Younger siblings are welcome to join in the Disco fun. We just ask that you purchase a ticket for them and that those parents/caregivers stay for the duration of the Disco to look after their younger one.
All kids should be picked up from inside the School Hall at the end of the Disco.

Book Week Report
Thank you to everyone who has come to visit the book fair, and thank you to all the wonderful helpers. It is the last day of book week tomorrow, and the fair will be open before and after school. There are still lots and lots of lovely books, so do come in for a look. Help us beat last year's total of $11,000.00. We are getting close!
We have Auckland Zoo zookeeper and author, Jez Smith visiting our tamariki tomorrow morning. His books (about animals) are for sale at the book fair. If you buy one in the morning, Jez can sign it!
The axolotl and gummy bears are back in stock for those who were waiting.
Lost Property
Our lost property rack is getting very full again! Please come through the office and check it. We will be donating clothing left at the end of the term to a worthy cause.

Little Mermaid show
Little Mermaid show on at the Aotea Centre next weekend - 26 to 28 June.
Four of our Y5s are in the show - Alexa, Sophie, Annabelle and Mia.
It'll be lots of fun, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to come and enjoy it.
Western Springs College Open Week
2026 WSC Open Week Tour dates in week 1 of Term 3, as well as new Out of Zone Enrolments for 2027 (Y9 + Y10 only). These tours will take place with Principal (Ivan Davis) between 9am-10:30am. Bookings can be made via this link HERE and further information is available on website.

Westmere School is a collection point for donated PJs to make sure every child who goes through Middlemore Hospital's doors goes home in a warm pair of pyjamas.
Please contribute to this effort through to the end of June and spread the word to friends and whānau. You can find donation boxes in the office at the Larchwood Avenue entry doors.
