WOW - What's on Wanaka

By Indigo —

In Wanaka there are three different ski fields, Cardrona, Treble Cone (TC) and Snow Farm. Other close ski fields are in Queenstown, the ski fields are Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.

Cardrona

Cardrona is a ski resort for downhill skiing/snowboarding. They have four chairlifts, three magic carpets and a platter. The chairlifts are McDougalls Chondala which is chairs and gondolas, White Star which has heaps of jumps to do but these are the jumps that they use for competitions, Captains Express which is nice and fun skiing with a great cafe, and Valley View the chairlift which is the lowest down so runs out of snow first. The platter is just for half pipe users. Cardrona is good for beginners and is heaps of fun.

Treble Cone

Treble Cone or TC is for downhill skiers/snowboarders. They have two chairlifts, one platter and one magic carpet. The Home Basin chairlift is a six seater. The home basin has a variety of runs coming off it which are for mixed levels. The Saddle is for more advanced levels but is still fun.  A good run on the Saddle is the Bullet which is sort of a half pipe. The platter and magic carpet are for beginners, sometimes the platter has jumps for kids on it. TC is fun and challenging.

Snow Farm

Snow Farm is for cross-country skiing. At Snow Farm there are no chairlifts. This is because in cross-country skiing the back of your ski boot is not attached to your skis so you can walk. Snow Farm do other things like dog sledding, snowshoeing and they have a kid fun zone. Dog Sledding is where you go on a sled and have huskies pulling you. Snowshoeing is when you put on these big pad like things on your feet and the you go across the snow on walks. Snow Farm has a great range of activities.
