Sporting Opportunities
Netball
This year Westmere school will be with Auckland Netball and our club will be at Windmill Park (www.aucklandnetball.co.nz). However, a parent has kindly offered to organise teams for any players who wish to continue at North Harbour.
Windmill Park
If your child would like to play netball at Windmill Park:
- Years 2-4 on Thursday afternoons. Years 2 and 3 play 4 a side and Year 4 play 5 a side;
- Years 5/6 on Wednesday afternoons. Years 5 & 6 play 6 a side.
The season starts on 20 May and concludes on 2 September (depending on any weather cancellations).
No trials will take place for any children wanting to play at Windmill Park. They will be placed in friendship/year group teams.
If you have any questions regarding netball at Windmill Park, please email Tara at tkrishnamurthy@westmere.school.nz.

Waterpolo, Flippaball and Minipolo
We are calling for registrations of interest to play water polo (Flippaball & Mini Polo) for Westmere in 2021.
Westmere School will again be offering children the opportunity to play water polo this year during school terms 2 and 4. If you have a child Year 3 or older who is a good swimmer (can easily swim 25m without stopping to touch the bottom) and would like to join or continue to play this fun team sport, we would like to take registrations of interest now so we can contact you with more detail and form teams by the end of term 1.
Participation requires practice on a Saturday afternoon (Epsom Girls pool) for 1 hour then games on a Sunday afternoon (either Dio or St Cuth's pool). The games are 20min in duration and can be played in a shallow pool (Flippaball) or deep pool (Mini Polo).
Westmere has enjoyed considerable success in this sport over the last few years and we generally have 4-5 teams playing across different ages and abilities. The sport is coordinated by Ron Curteis, Charlie C’s dad from LS6.
If you would like to stay informed and have the opportunity for your child to play water polo this year, please send Ron an email (roncurteis@yahoo.co.nz) by the end of March with the following information:
- Childs Name
- Childs Year & Class
- Your Name
- Your Email address
- Your Mobile number
- Interest in playing for the top 'Mini Polo' team which is played in deep water - strong confident swimmers and ability to tread water required.
