Te Karere o te wā : te wiki tuawhitu
Taiopenga Mahi toi: The art festival was a resounding success with stunning displays of creative student work for whānau to admire. The tuakana created a stream of vibrant tuna in Te Whare Rehia, while the teina room was adorned with richly textured korowai and colourful piupiu. Many thanks once again to whānau who helped with the construction of art works and to Whaea Claire who helped to teach the senior students.

Tamaki Paenga Hira : Auckland Museum visit
The Māori halls and exhibition space provided a meaningful learning experience for tuakana this week to deepen their understanding of Māori visual and material culture. Small groups supported by parents and teachers engaged in a taonga hunt throughout the exhibits, appreciating both the functionality and degree of artistic skill and beauty present in traditional artefacts.
Nohinohi
At the beginning of the term we looked at ways the piupiu was made traditionally and what its uses were. We then attempted to make a few strands together. Students learnt how difficult this process was which in turn, helped them to appreciate a completed traditional piupiu.
Over the past few weeks Nohinohi have worked collaboratively to make a few different piupiu to display for our art exhibition. The students enjoyed spending the time together and took great pride in both completing each strand and also the end product that they produced. Skills incorporated in this were pattern making, different textures, fine motor skills, working together which students challenged themselves to do.
