Te Karere o Te Wā: Mahuru
Tuia i runga, tuia i raro, tuia i roto, tuia i waho. E kīa nei me i kore ko rātou, me i kore ko tātou.
The tūākana will be travelling to Finlayson Park School in Manurewa this Friday (22nd) to support Lulu as she represents her whānau, NUONI and Te Rehu as a whole. We will be returning the taonga that Aaron was awarded last year. However Lulu has been working hard to polish her performance and she will not make it easy for any other kura who may have their eye on the prize. It is also important to note here that the majority of students in Wai Tahi wrote and delivered a manu kōrero Māori, even our year fours. This is not an easy thing to do and the level was even higher this year than last. Our two judges, Whaea Vikki and Pāpā Chris had an extremely difficult decision to make. They made special mention of the increase in fluency and delivery from our girls, the excitement the year fours brought to the stage and the overall standard of reo being presented.
Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori - Māori At Home nā Whaea Jane
Pau katoa ngā pukapuka, reka rawa ngā kai, pukuhohe ngā waiata a Whaea Anika.
As we get closer to our end of term Arts Celebration we are seeing the fruits of learning within our conceptual curriculum. We have explored different art mediums to innovatively re-tell the story of Tinirau and Kae. Tuākana have worked in small groups to creatively narrate the story, create mini skits, design shadow puppet segments, introduce using stick puppets, conclude the story with sock puppets and choreograph Cook Island and hip-hop dances. During our week 8 Whānau Assembly, tuākana enthusiastically performed a dance they had choreographed to the song Wairua in celebration of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. We look forward to sharing our learning next week.
Stepping Out nā Whaea Laura
Teina and Nohinohi have been lucky to have Constable Taina come in for "Stepping Out" to teach us about road safety. During her first visit we learned how to cross the road safely, looking left and right before crossing. On her second visit we learned how to be safe in the car by putting on seat belts and making them click.
A reminder to parents that we are planning a trip for next Monday to the Auckland Town Hall for Auckland Live, an interactive experience of the theatre. Please return the form ASAP stating whether you are available to be a parent helper on the day.
